Implement unresolved resolutions first
Dal Khalsa sets agenda for new SGPC head

Saturday December 03rd, 2005
Dal Khalsa took a dig at Jathedar Akal Takht and the PSGPC president Mastan Singh for entering into war of words with regards to summoning of Sarbat Khalsa at Nankana Sahib in Pakistan.

Addressing the press meet at Hoshiarpur on December 3, the Vice-President of the body, Jaspal Singh categorically stated that the issue of placement of the Palki did not warrant the summoning of a Sarbat Khalsa meet. He appealed to the president of the Pak body to consult Sikhs worldwide on the issue but refrain from calling a Sarbat Khalsa. In the same breath, he criticized the contention of the Jathedar of Akal Takht that he was the sole authority to convene such a Sarbat Khalsa meet.

Jaspal Singh, who was accompanied by Harcharanjit Singh Dhami and Kanwarpal Singh said that the Jathedar should stay away from poking his nose in every issue without any serious thought and deliberation.

Informing the media that Dal Khalsa leaders stated that they had written to the newly elected president of the SGPC seeking the implementation of various Panthic resolutions passed by the SGPC from time to time. They pointed out to the new President that while he was seized with streamlining the administration of the SGPC bureaucracy and other current issues, he has failed take notice of the bundle of issues on which the SGPC has passed many a resolution, but which were never implemented. The substantive issues of the Khalsa Panth are gathering dust in the files stored in the cupboards of Teja Singh Samundri Hall. All past presidents adopted resolutions, either to rake up issues or subvert the same, but none showed any desire to resolve the issues.

To drive their point home, the leaders of the organization pointed out that the resolution to get VATICAN like status for Amritsar was passed in the budget session of 2001. Similarly, the SGPC in its executive committee meeting in 2002 passed a resolution to raise a memorial for the martyrs of 1984. Nothing has been done so far on both the issues; rather the raking up of the memorial issue by former president Jagir Kaur further polarized the Sikh polity.

Urging Mr Avtar Singh to take a serious look at various resolutions of the SGPC, the Dal Khalsa reiterated that the casual and non-serious attitude and approach on various contentious issues by the SGPC presidents in the past has created bad blood within Panthic ranks and files. He further advised the president to concentrate on implementing what has been resolved earlier rather than setting up new agenda.

Jaspal Singh further said that it was sad to note that the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, Jathedar Joginder Singh has been meddling in political affairs as if he is a circle President of the Badal led Akali Dal. He said that the SGPC must prevail upon him so that no further harm can be caused to the dignity and status of Akal Takht Sahib.
