Sunday February 15th, 2004
Dal Khalsa has criticized the leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal for mortgaging the Sikh interests in lieu of their personal benefits and gave a call for an opposition to Akali Dal's decision to relinquish the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat for the BJP.

Dal Khalsa working president H S Dhami who spoke during the Sikh Convention held at Ajnala (15 km from Amritsar) on Feb. 15, 2004 said his organization strongly believes that Akalis should retain the Amritsar seat for a diehard Sikh candidate keeping in view the historical and religious importance of the place. "Amritsar has a different meaning for us. This place is close to Sikh heart", was how Mr Dhami summed up his speech.

Speakers of Dal Khalsa organization reiterated their opposition to Akali Dal's alliance with the BJP. Even if one goes by the political arithmetic, this constituency has sizeable number of Sikh voters (7 lakh 70 thousand out of total 12 lakh and 46 thousand, according to one survey). "It was utter nonsense on the part of the Akalis to leave this seat for those who has always nurtured anti-Sikh feelings", felt Kanwar Pal Singh, general secretary of the organization.

Dal Khalsa that has always criticized Akali Dal's for its policies and approach made it clear that it would not accept BJP candidate from this seat.

"Dal Khalsa is averse to Congress and that it dislike BJP in a similar way". For Sikhs, both were equally responsible for Sikh genocide. Dal Khalsa called upon the masses to work steadfastly to defeat the candidates of both the parties.

Dal Khalsa also took the opportunity to ask the gathered Sikhs to give chance to new faces and young blood in the SGPC.

Dal Khalsa admitted that "too much political interference" has eroded the institutions of Akal Takht and the SGPC and had lowered their honor and dignity. There's need to minimize the interference of politicians in these institutions, said another leader Iqbal Singh Mann Sikh scholar Inderjeet Singh also addressed the gathering.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Dr Manjinder Singh, Ranbir Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Subedar Baldev Singh, Dr Arpal Singh and Surinder Pal Singh (all activists of the Dal Khalsa).
