Genocide Remembrance Parade on 5th June 2005 at Amritsar

Friday June 03rd, 2005
The Dal Khalsa has resolved to undertake 'Genocide Remembrance Parade' at Amritsar on June 5 on the eve of 21st anniversary of army assault on Darbar Sahib in June 1984. In another significant move, it asked the SGPC to install the photograph of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale at Sikh Museum on this June 6.

The March that would begin at 5 PM from the party office will pass through all major lanes and localities of the Amritsar city. It would reach at Akal Takht where Ardas in memory of martyrs will be performed.

We condemn the chief minister for opposing the move of the SGPC to raise memorial in memory of June 1984 holocaust. It seems that after enjoying three years of privileges of power; Captain Amrinder Singh has easily forgotten the truth that he himself resigned from the Congress in protest against the same holocaust.

The move of the SGPC to raise the memorial would only be seen in the 'true spirit' if it involves Damdami Taksal, blood relations of martyrs and other Sikh groups who contributed in the struggle that was triggered in the aftermath of the holocaust in the process. We have strong apprehension that the manner in which the controversy has shrouded the otherwise 'noble cause' might meet the fate of All India Gurdwara Act and World Heritage Status for Darbar Sahib.

We endorse the demand of Damdami Taksal to convert the ground floor of the Akal Takhat into "Shaheedhi Gallery". Apart from it there should be a monument in the open. The SGPC should decide the place and shape after taking the Sikh groups into confidence. We warn the SGPC not to overlook the mood and aspirations of the Sikhs owing allegiance to groups other than Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).
