State denied Dal Khalsa the right to hold independent thought & belief State's Onslaughts 'Goes on'
Wednesday June 08th, 2005
To thwart the Sikh aspirations for independence, the police in Punjab framed another sedition case against the leadership of
the Dal Khalsa-the group actively pursing the goal for Sikh independence since its re-emergence by adhering to democratic
norms & values.
The police has arrested six of its members so far that includes its general secretary Kanwarpal Singh. Amritsar police took him into custody from party office in the evening of June 8, minutes after the case was registered against them. As the Dal Khalsa hit the streets of Amritsar on June 5 to protest against the army attack on Darbar Sahib 21 years ago, the state found a new excuse to target the organization. The local police under the instructions of its top echelon gagged up to let loose a fresh reign of terror on them. The procession taken out by the organization was aimed to demonstrate Sikh feelings that were deeply hurt with the attack on their sacred place twenty one years ago. The spirited march named as 'Genocide Remembrance Parade' that passed off peacefully culminated at Darbar Sahib where Ardas (Prayer) was performed in memory of those who were perished during the attack. Exactly after 72 hours of the parade, that left a deep and lasting impact on Sikh masses, the police reacted out of vengeance and registered a case under Section 124-A, 153-A, 153-B of the IPC against 21 members of the organization alleging that inflammatory and anti national speeches were made during the march. The issue was blown out of proportion and the case was framed to fill terror in the minds of the Sikhs, specially who have been supporting the cause of the Sikh independence. Unlike on January 26, 2005 when the case was registered against the 19 activists of the organization for unfurling Sikh Flag in open defiance to Tricolour, the latest First Information Report (FIR) is full of lies. The slogans raised during the procession were either twisted, distorted or framed. Thereafter, the police took to its old terror tactics and arrested many relatives and family members of party members including ninety (90) years old father of Avtar Singh Jalalabad because his son evaded the arrest. They all were illegally detained at civil lines police station for more than 48 hours before being released. Ever Since the re-emergence of the Dal Khalsa in August 1998, the policies of the government of the day whether led by Parkash Singh Badal or Captain Amrinder Singh has been aimed to suppress the Sikh voice by high-handedness. Legal Status: The Amritsar Court has rejected the bail application of six members of the party who are detained in Amritsar Central Jail from the last almost 30 days. The session judge Archana Puri after hearing their case pleaded by advocate VP Singh Bhatia the judge rejected the bail plea, without assigning any solid reason. Against the decision of the lower court, a petition has been filed in higher court to seek bail for them. Senior & noted human rights lawyer Navkiran Singh is fighting the legal battle for Dal Khalsa in Punjab & Haryana High Court. |
