Book release ceremony
A collection of write-ups by Gajinder Singh in the form of a book titled `Lakeer' released

Sunday November 30th, 2003
At a Dal Khalsa's function the book titled 'Lakeer' authored by its president Gajinder Singh on wide ranging issues from time to time was released on Nov. 30, 2003 at Hotel K. C. Residency, Chandigarh. Much to the embarrassment of the BJP, the president of the SGPC Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra in his published message has lauded the contribution of Gajinder Singh, who's name figured in the list of 20 most wanted persons handed over to Pakistan by the BJP led NDA Government in the wake of attack on the Parliament.

It is pertinent to mention that Gajinder Singh who hijacked the Indian Airline plane way back in Sep 1981 to protest against the arrest of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Pakistan special court in 1986 in hijacking case. The Dal Khalsa, a political group active in Punjab since 1998, has elected Gajinder Singh as its president in the recent past for two years.

The title of the book depicts a line drawn with blood separating Kesri Nishan Sahib from the Tricolour (Flag of India). The author in his write-ups has tried to emphasize that the Sikhs are a separate nation and they have a vision to establish their own sovereign rule. By showing a line dipped in the blood of Sikh martyrs separating Sikh flag from Tricolour, the author has reiterated his commitment for the goal of Khalistan.

The author in his attempt to mark the distinction between terrorism and freedom movement has said that after a success every so-called terrorist has proved to be a responsible politician. To drive his point home, he has listed the various freedom movements where one's terrorist is another's hero. Pointing out the rationale behind the hijacking, Jathedar Tohra said that the injustice heaped on Sikhs since India gained independence in 1947 had forced Gajinder Singh and his colleagues to take an extreme step to show the dismal plight of Sikhs before the world community. Jathedar Tohra had a praise of word for Gajinder: He expressed appreciation for his bravery, commitment, far-sightedness and political wisdom. The need to publish Gajinder Singh's write-ups was born after we realized that the young generation of today was unaware of the overall personality of Gajinder Singh who had sacrificed his whole life for the charhdi kala of the Sikh Nation. To make the Sikhs aware of his thoughts & vision, we had tried to give them a food of thought in the form of Lakeer that has been drawn with the blood of Sikh martyrs, said Kanwar Pal Singh, the editor of the book. " I am convinced that the lakeer will reinforce the spirit of freedom in Sikhs in general and young generation in particular". Karamjit Singh, a senior journalist has written the preface of the book. He said that their party representative from USA Mr Ajit Singh Pannu has come all the way to participate in the function. Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, Harcharanjit Singh Dhami, working president of the Dal Khalsa said: "the indictment of Gajinder Singh by the BJP led government is totally unjustified and absurd. On what basis was the BJP demanding his extradition from Pakistan? The government has erred in branding him as a terrorist.

Mr Dhami stressed that neither he was terrorist nor he was wanted in any crime in India. He said that Gajinder Singh belonged to that Sikh school of political thought that believes that the national identity of the Sikhs can only be safeguarded with the establishment of independent sovereign Sikh state.

"We detest the negative decision of the Indian government against our leader", said Dhami. He has served the interest of the Sikh nation and is one of the most admired Sikh revolutionaries of present time". He further asked, "what kind of justice was there in this country when people like Narendar Modi, H K L Bhagat, Jagdish Tytler were roaming free even after sponsoring and engineering mass murders of minorities".

Charging the BJP for adopting double standards, Satnam Singh Paonta Sahib another senior leader of the Dal Khalsa said, why India was not asking the extradition of Chotta Rajan who was wanted in several criminal cases? Blaming the successive governments with launching a vilification campaign against the Sikh revolutionaries, he said it were a deliberate attempts to malign the image of Sikhs before the international community".

"We wrote last year to Union Home Ministry for deletion of name of Gajinder Singh from the list but the government has not yet responded. So, we are working out strategy to approach the court for the same", revealed Kanwar Pal Singh, general secretary of the Dal Khalsa.

Prominent amongst those who attended were Shinder Pal Singh, Advocate Dalbir Singh Bath, Sarbjit Singh Ghuman, Iqbal Singh Mann (all executive committee members), Subedar Baldev Singh, Raminder jit Singh, Dr Manjinder Singh, Ranbeer Singh, Sarbajit Singh Patiala, Harnek Singh Bhular, Harbhajan Singh Amritsar (members working committee).
