Observing martyrdom day of Bhai Beant Singh
Sunday October 29th, 2006
To commemorate 22nd “martyrdom day” of Beant Singh, an
assassin of Indira Gandhi, a function in his memory is being organized at
Gurdwara Guru Teg Bahadur in Jalandhar on Oct 31 (Tuesday).
The organization has invited Jathedar of the Takht Damdama Sahib to pay tributes to Beant Singh, who was killed by the security guards on the spot, after he assassinated the then PM, Indira Gandhi, on Oct 31, 1984. Beant Singh, who punished Indira Gandhi to avenge the desecration of Darbar Sahib and Akal Takht, is a great martyr of a Sikh Nation. Significantly, the participants would be leaders like SGPC members S Manjit Singh Calcutta and Karnail Singh Panjoli, Damdami Taksal spokesman Bhai Mokham Singh, Bhai Rajinder Singh of Khalsa Panchayat, Bhai Narien Singh of Akal Federation, Akali leader Bhai Jagjit Singh Gaba, leaders of various Sikh Students Federation including Ujjal Didar Singh and Bhai Balwant Singh Gopala. The convention will be presided over by Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh, who would honour the family members of Beant Singh. The Jathedar will also honour the family members of Ludhiana based Avtar Singh Gola, who was killed by cat-turned police inspector Gurmeet Singh Pinki 5 years ago. It is pertinent to mention that Pinki has been convicted for life by Haryana Court in the murder case of Avtar case last month. We feel the family members of deceased deserve backing and appreciation for the courage and dedication they showed in nailing the person, who enjoyed the strong backing of police hierarchy. |
